I'm doing it wrong
Me: "Since you've all been working so hard, I got everyone tickets to Wall-E!"
Singapore students: "We all just bought bus tickets to New York for the weekend."
Me: "..."

Honestly, I spent the next hour going "..."

No kidding. I could probably get a refund for the extras, though, and there are still a lot of staff and MIT students left in Boston on the weekend.

I don't think they're necessarily unappreciative, we all just made weekend plans at the same time.

Only in that you didn't ask first. It was still a very nice gesture. :)

Actually, I did ask but I didn't email. I asked the wrong person, though.

I'm probably going to open it to the friends of the MIT students, who are less enamored with NYC.

shush you, certainly not if you are from singapore it is not! if you are in america for one summer you should go to NY. :-)

last summer one of the singapore kids was down in NY 2/3 of the weekends going to concerts constantly. he had an aunt in mineola or something so this wasn't retardedly expensive.

(hey, you're from NY, did you see my post about needing to find someone to drive a car from NY to boston?)

yeah, I'd even say that NYC can be a good experience in general, but I don't think I could ever live there again and I find the glamor it gets kind of annoying.

No, I don't think I noticed. I'll look for it, though I'm not often there.

One thing that's potentially useful is the huge number of consulates and permanent missions (in the UN) in NYC. I sent the students a list of contact information for the consulates, if nothing else than to imply "well, I'm not going to deal with it if you lose your passport in NYC."
